The UK Borders Agency’s e-Borders system currently tracks up to half of all passengers coming into and leaving the country, according to immigration minister, Phil Woolas.

The minister’s was responding to a parliamentary question posed by Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet and shadow secretary of state for transport. “We estimate that e-Borders is currently tracking 45% to 50% of all passenger movements into and out of the UK, which equates to approximately 100m passengers annually,” Woolas said.

The 10-year contract runs from November 2007 and is planned to November 2017.According to the minister, 100% coverage is expected to be in place by March 2014, though e-Borders aims to track “95% of all passenger and crew movements by December 2010.”
